For 30 years, War Child has stood for a world where no child is scarred by war. Now, this mission is more urgent than ever. More children are affected by war and violence today then ever before: 473 million. An unimaginable number. But a child is not a statistic. Behind that number are real children, with names, faces and stories of their own. For this reason, the Royal Dutch Mint is launching a special coincard: to raise more awareness for the children who are victims of brutal war violence. War violence that is still ongoing, even in Europe.

War Child

War should never determine a child’s future. That’s what War Child is fighting for every day. The organization provides mental health support for children in conflict zones. Grounded in science and brought to life through sports, games and creativity, their programmes help children process their experiences and rediscover their strength. So they can and dare to believe in the future again. Want to learn more about War Child’s work? Visit www.warchild.net.

Design

On the obverse of the coincard is a picture of David from Rwanda, who has been able to process traumatic experiences, with the support of War Child. Around the Medal, is the text (translated from Dutch): “At War Child, children always come first.” On the reverse, you can find several symbols, which suits War Child. On the left, you’ll find a link to the website to read the stories of David, Natalya, and other children affected by war. Because every child counts.

In the coincard you can find a 1 Euro Coin and a special Medal with a child depicted on both sides, because children always come first with War Child. On the obverse of the Medal you see Natalya from Ukraine. Around the side of Natalya, is the text (translated from Dutch): “Don’t let war determine their future”. On the reverse you see David.
