50 years of access to Van Goghs masterpieces
After the passing of Vincent van Gogh, his works are managed by his brother Theo and his wife, Johanna van Gogh-Bonger. Their son and Vincent’s nephew, Vincent Willem, starts the Vincent van Gogh Foundation in 1962. He comes to an agreement with the Dutch State to build the Van Gogh Museum, where the family collection can be managed and preserved for future generations. The Van Gogh Museum is opened on June 2th 1973 by Queen Juliana. In 50 years, the museum has had over 53 million visitors. The museum organizes many exhibitions, with subjects that show and deepen the work and life of Vincent van Gogh and his time.
Bring a handmade masterpiece into your home
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, a limited edition of a special issue is available: the 50 years Van Gogh Museum Silver 5 ounce. This issue is inspired by Sunflowers (1889) the masterpiece by Vincent van Gogh that can be admired in the permanent collection of the museum. The obverse of the coin contains the logo for 50 years Van Gogh Museum.
