65 Years of miffy Gold 1 Ounce - Royal Delft Edition

It’s Miffy’s 65^th birthday and we celebrate with her! A white bunny in the garden of a holiday home in Egmond aan Zee inspired Dick Bruna to create Miffy (“nijntje” in Dutch). In cooperation with Royal Delft, the Royal Dutch Mint gives special attention to this anniversary celebration. The issue in 1 ounce gold is placed in a hand-painted Royal Delft earthenware tile and brings a tribute to writer and illustrator Dick Bruna. An anniversary issue that will be remembered!

A tribute to Dick Bruna
On 23 August 1927, Dick Bruna was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands. For over sixty years he created picture books in his signature format: compact, square books with twelve pictures on the right and four lines of (rhyming) text on the left. Both the use of warm colours and the thick black outlines (which show the “heartbeat” of the artist) are immediately recognisable as Dick Bruna’s. For decades, Bruna’s picture books have been loved by all ages, in countries all over the world. On 16 February 2017, Bruna died at age 89 in his hometown Utrecht, where the Miffy Museum and an actual Miffy statue can be found.

Design
The exclusive “65 Years of miffy” issue in gold is found in an official Royal Delft earthenware tile. The obverse of the issue shows Dick Bruna’s characteristic portrait; on the reverse you will find the Miffy anniversary logo and the text “65 years of miffy”. The issue can be taken out of the tile so you can admire both sides.
The tile is decorated with hand-painted happy illustrations in the recognisable Delft Blue colours. On the sides of the tile, butterflies and flowers as drawn by Dick Bruna are found. The classic tile and the playful illustrations in Miffy’s style create a true tribute to Dick Bruna. A perfect addition to the collection of any Miffy fan!
