75 years of freedom jewel

To honour 75 years of freedom since 1945

The celebration of 75 years of freedom is a special occasion in the Netherlands. To commemorate this the Royal Dutch Mint presents the 75 years of freedom jewel in addition to the commemorative coin (which is commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Finance). The beautiful Silver pendant symbolises the 75 years that the Netherlands has lived in freedom and is designed by silversmith Marileen van Koelen.

About the design

The base of the pendant consists out of an openwork orb. The orb symbolises the earth. The openwork design shows how freedom gives us space. 75 flames are featured in the design, equal to the years the Netherlands has lived in freedom since 1945. The flames also resemble a dove of peace: the symbol of freedom in The Netherlands by the National Committee for 4 and 5 May; respectively Dutch Remembrance Day and Liberation Day.

The 75 years of freedom jewel is a beautiful gift for yourself or for somebody else! By gifting this you pass on freedom, and later the jewel can be passed on from generation to generation.

About the designer

Marileen van Koelen has worked at the Royal Dutch Mint since 2008 in the silversmith department. At her graduation she received a phone call from the Royal Dutch Mint only to be on her first job interview two days later. Marileen grew from student to accomplished enameller. She exclusively designed the 75 years of freedom jewel for the Royal Dutch Mint, therefore the jewel is only available here.
