85 years of Tom Puss

In March 1941, Tom Puss made his debut in the text comic strip "Tom Poes ontdekt het geheim der blauwe aarde" (Tom Puss discovers the secret of the blue earth) in newspaper De Telegraaf. Marten Toonder initially conceived the cartoon character as a cartoon for children. His wife, Phiny Dick suggested the name Tom Puss because she had just bought tompoezen (cream slices). She wrote the first six episodes. After that, Marten Toonder not only drew, but as a language virtuoso he also took charge of the stories.

Although Tom Puss as the main character in the Bommel sagas himself does not make any characteristic statements, he is inseparable from Ollie B. Bommel and expressions such as; Tom Puss invent a trick! He is also the only character who wears no clothes and yet always remains cool and finds the right solution. After WWII the comic becomes more mature and the situations of Tom Puss and Bommel become more real and topical and the comic gets its socially critical tone. After 85 years Tom Puss is still topical. Now also available as a unique silver bar, be quick, if you know what I mean!

Design

The 85 years of Tom Puss silver bar has a weight of 1 gram and is packaged in a very appropriate finecard. On the front of the finecard Tom Puss and Ollie B. Bommel walk with Castle Bommelstein in the background. The signature of Marten Toonder completes the picture. The back shows the logo of 85 years of Tom Puss, with an image of the celebrating and music-making birthday boy next to it. At the bottom left is the information about the silver bar and the guaranteed purity.
