In 2026, Aruba will celebrate two special milestones: 40 years of its “Status Aparte” and 50 years Flag and National Anthem. On January 1, 1986, Aruba became an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. This status apart was a significant moment for the country, and now, four decades later, Aruba has further strengthened its identity.
The island is also celebrating 50 years Flag and National Anthem. The Aruban flag, introduced on March 18, 1976, is light blue with a red, four-pointed star and two yellow stripes. The light blue symbolizes the sea and the sky. The four-pointed star represents the four languages spoken on the island (Papiamento, Dutch, Spanish, and English). The two stripes represent the “Status Aparte” and tourism. The Aruban anthem, Aruba Dushi Tera (Aruba, Blessed Land), was adopted as the official anthem on March 18, 1976.

These two milestones are both featured on the Aruba 5 Florin. The obverse features the numbers 40 and 50 in blue lettering, referring to the two anniversaries. The obverse has a festive atmosphere symbolizing the national anthem and the state apartheid. The red, four-pointed star is also depicted on this side. The reverse side features the Aruban Coat of Arms with "Aruba 2026" written on the right.
