Belgium 12.5 euro 2024 “25th wedding anniversary of royal couple” Gold Proof in Case

The Royal Mint of Belgium issues a pure gold 12 ½ euro coin every year. For the next four years, it will always have a royal touch. The third issue in this mini-series puts the silver wedding anniversary of the royal couple in the golden spotlight.

On 4 December 1999, the then Prince Philippe and damsel Mathilde said their ‘yes’ to each other. So that means our royal couple may very soon celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. 

During the 1999 wedding ceremony at St Michael and St Gudula Cathedral in Brussels, the couple exchanged wedding rings and kissed each other on the cheek: the highlight of a two-hour mass! Filip had four children with his wife Mathilde: Elisabeth (2001), Gabriel (2003), Emmanuel (2005) and Eléonore (2008). As of 2013, the couple is a royal couple.

To add extra lustre to the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Royal Wedding, the Royal Mint of Belgium is now issuing a beautiful 12½-euro coin, struck in the purest gold and in the very highest Proof quality. The obverse shows the portrait of the jubilee royal couple, at the top the number ‘25’, in the bottom centre the joint monogram.  Iris Bruijns signed for the design. The reverse shows King Philip's portrait, the face value and the trilingual country indication. A luxurious case and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity complete this subtle numismatic gem.
