Jaap Smit, Deputy Chairman of the National Committee for 4 and 5 May, has just performed the ceremonial First Strike of the 75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin in the new Royal Dutch Mint building in Houten. The Royal Dutch Mint has broadcast the ceremony via livestream.
Due to the current circumstances, no audience was present at the ceremonial First Strike. Still, the Royal Dutch Mint and the National Committee for 4 and 5 May wished to commemorate the celebration of 75 years of freedom in interconnectedness. For that reason, the ceremonial First Strike took place in adjusted form and was broadcast via livestream.Guest speakers at distance

The 75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin
To show the festive atmosphere at the time of the liberation 75 years ago, artist Marijke van Warmerdam incorporated a jaunty ribbon on both the obverse and the reverse of the 75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin. This first commemorative coin of 2020 was struck in commission by the Dutch Ministry of Finance.
