Curacao and St. Martin 5 Guilder 2024 “Farewell Antillean Guilder (NAf)”
The new commemorative coin for Curacao and St. Martin is all about the Antillean Guilder, that on this moment is still the official currency of these two islands. That is about to change: the coin will soon be replaced by the Caribbean Guilder. As a farewell to the Antillean Guilder, a commemorative coin is released: the Curacao and St. Martin 5 Guilder “Farewell Antillean Guider (NAf)” 2024.
In 1928, the Dutch Guilder was being introduced on the Netherlands Antilles, but in 1940, the Antillean Guilder was its replacement, as a direct result of World War II. This coin has the same value as the Aruban Florin. In 2011, the American Dollar was introduced on Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba, but the Antillean Guilder remained to be the currency on Curacao and St. Martin. However, the rate of this currency is linked to the American Dollar. This will also be the case with the new currency that is soon to come: the Caribbean Guilder.
Design
On the obverse of the Curacao and St. Martin 5 Guilder “Farewell Antillean Guilder (NAf)”, you can find six different bird types. These birds live on the islands and are also depicted on the Antillean Guilder coins and banknotes. On the bottom and two sides you can find words of goodbye in three languages. In English “Farewell NAf”, in Dutch “Vaarwel NAf” and in Papiamento “Avó NAf”. On the reverse is the Netherlands Antilles Coat of Arms, with on both sides “5 G”, which indicates the value: 5 Guilders. Below is the year 2024.
