On Tuesday 18 February a new series of Silver Ducats themed “Dutch Castles” was launched at De Haar Castle in Utrecht. The castle itself is depicted on the first issue of the series. Curator Katrien Timmers and Anetta de Jong, director of Stichting Exploitatie Kasteel de Haar, were present.
To kick off “Dutch Castles” in a festive way, the first issue of the series was ceremonially revealed at De Haar Castle on 18 February in the presence of curator Katrien Timmers and Anetta de Jong, director of Stichting Exploitatie Kasteel de Haar. In 2020 the Royal Dutch Mint issues four Silver Ducats, each depicting a different Dutch castle. Silver Ducats are commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Finance on a yearly basis.
De Haar Castle
To visit De Haar Castle, whether to admire its park, its rich history, the exhibitions, gardens, deer or for a wedding, is to be immersed in a different world. Behind every door, every detail, every flower in its colorful gardens is a story. A story about earlier times, different cultures and interesting characters. De Haar is the largest castle in the Netherlands, once the private residence of the Van Zuylen family, whose descendants still stay here yearly. In the last century, the castle also frequently hosted members of the international jet-set with their lavish lifestyle; from Coco Chanel to Roger Moore, they too left their mark on the sumptuous rooms of the most opulent spot in Utrecht.
The Silver Ducat ‘De Haar Castle’ is already available and is supplied in luxury packaging, inspired by the armor of the knight.
