25 years equal marriage
25 years ago, the first same-sex couples got married in the Stopera in Amsterdam. The Netherlands was the first country in the world that opened marriage for everyone. For the 25th jubilee, the Royal Dutch Mint launches an official commemorative coin, commissioned by the Ministry of Finance.
Designer
Koos Breen is a interdisciplinary designer, artist and curator, based in The Hague. His work varies from coins to tapestry, from books to shoes and from tables to spatial installations. Breen previously executed commissions for the Royal House, the Escher Museum, Bloc Studios, and the Nieuwe Instituut.
Design
With his design for the 25 years equal marriage 5 Euro Coin, Breen choose a central place for the word “iedereen” (everybody). This shows nicely on the Silver Proof issue, that is launched with color detail. Breen also shows the rings as a symbol of marriage and the rainbow as symbol of the LGBTI+ Community on his design for the commemorative coin.
