Description

On 25 March 2020, during the corona period, we silently lost one of the greatest artists in the Netherlands: Liesbeth List. La List had an extensive musical career spanning more than 55 years. To honour the grande dame posthumously, the Royal Dutch Mint is minting a special issue.

A Tribute to a Legendary Artist
Liesbeth List (12 December 1941) showed an interest in literature, art and music from an early age. She made her first appearance on television in 1962, on the talent show Nieuwe Oogst and the Rob de Nijs Show. After that, her career takes off quickly. The theater program Shaffy Chantant, which she makes with artist Ramses Shaffy, becomes a great success and the two become lifelong friends. From the late 1960s, List also achieved success abroad, working with big names such as Charles Aznavour, Rod McKuen and Gilbert Bécaud. Several records were awarded a gold or platinum status. In addition to her musical career, she was also praised as an actress, especially for her role as Edith Piaf in the musical Piaf. With the Liesbeth List issues, we look back on the long and impressive career of this great Dutch artist.

Musical Design
The musical design of the medal in coincard is a true tribute to the great artist. On the obverse is a classic portrait of List as we know her best: with her hair cut in a long bob with a fringe. The reverse shows the silhouette of a singing List with the relief of a vinyl record in the background. The coincard itself also celebrates List's famous records and shows record sleeves of her most important work.
