The mayor of Delft, Marja van Bijsterveldt, has performed the Ceremonial restrike of the Ducaton "Silver Rider" in the production hall of Royal Delft with a historical press. The Ducaton was an official currency in the Golden Age and will be brought back to life this year within a unique Royal Delft coin holder.
Theme year of the Netherlands: Rembrandt and the Golden Age
The Netherlands will dedicate 2019 to Rembrandt and the Golden Age. Two centuries-old companies, both of which originated from traditional work, have joined forces. Together, Royal Delft and the Royal Dutch Mint take you with them on a journey in the theme year 'The Netherlands in the Golden Age' with the restrike of a silver Ducaton in a Delft Blue coin holder. This exclusive issue is numbered and severely limited.
Bert van Ravenswaaij, CFO Royal Dutch Mint: "We find this unique collaboration in the Golden Age theme year very special. We bring a coin from the Golden Age back to life by bundling traditional crafts."
Henk Schouten, Royal Delft Group CEO: "With the coin holder two companies come together, each with a rich traditional past, a collaboration that I am proud of. Royal Delft's robust but beautifully painted earthenware with the laser precision minted coins of Royal Dutch Mint is a wonderful combination."
Two crafts bundled together
