Today, the Royal Dutch Mint launches 50 silver sunflowers with glass enamel to celebrate 50 years Van Gogh Museum. The sunflowers are handmade by the silversmiths in the studio of the Royal Dutch Mint, and are based on the famous painting Sunflowers (1889) by Vincent van Gogh. The very first issue was handed over this morning to Rob Groot, business director of the Van Gogh Museum.
Rob Groot: “Sunflowers symbolized gratitude for Vincent. As a museum, we are very thankful that we can share his art and life story with the public for 50 years. This coin is an amazing reminder of this milestone”.
Specially for the 50th anniversary of the Van Gogh Museum, the Royal Dutch Mint launches a special issue: 50 silver coins with a sunflower, a link with one of the most famous paintings ever made by Vincent van Gogh. The handover to Groot took place in a fitting environment: in the museum, in front of the original painting. Besides the silver issue, there is also special medal in coincard available with a 50 eurocent. This also emphasizes the jubilee of the Van Gogh Museum.
