Amsterdam – Today, writer Splinter Chabot has minted the 50 years recognition of COC Five Euro Coin. The first strike took place in Hotel Mercier, which was the head quarters of the organization for years. The commemorative coin is designed by Coen van Ham and is commissioned by the Ministry of Finance. Sacretary of State from the Finance department, Marnix van Rij, was also present at the First Strike. The very first issue was handed over this morning to Rob Groot, business director of the Van Gogh Museum.

This year marks 60 years since Anton Geesink has written history as the first non-Japanese to win the World Judo Championship in the heaviest weight division. The Royal Dutch Mint issues a commemorative coin in honour of the Dutch judoka. The coin's design was revealed today by granddaughter Leonie Geesink at the statue of Anton Geesink in Utrecht. The Anton Geesink 5 Euro Coin is minted on behalf of the Ministry of Finance.

On 7 October 2020, the ceremonial First Strike of the Woudagemaal 5 Euro Coin will take place. The strike will be performed by Hans Vijlbrief (State Secretary for Finance - Tax Affairs and the Tax Administration) and “dijkgraaf” Luzette Kroon (the chair of the Wetterskip Fryslân, a Dutch water board in the province of Friesland). The Royal Dutch Mint’s historical screw press will be placed in front of the Woudagemaal for this special occasion. As tradition dictates, the First Day Issue will only be available on this day.

The Ir. D.F. Woudagemaal in Lemmer, Friesland, celebrates its 100th anniversary. In honour of this special moment, the Royal Dutch Mint launches a commemorative coin. On the reverse of the coin, the UNESCO World Heritage Site itself is found. The obverse depicts the Dutch King Willem-Alexander. It is the first time that the King is depicted on a commemorative coin with his beard. The “Woudagemaal 5 Euro Coin” is struck in commission by the Ministry of Finance.

On 9 March the design of the issue was revealed in the venue Rotterdam Ahoy by Sietse Bakker (Executive Producer Event of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020) and Vincent Van Hecke (executive director Royal Dutch Mint) in the presence of the delegations of the 41 participating countries. This special anniversary issue is the result of an exclusive collaboration between the Royal Dutch Mint and the Eurovision Song Contest.

Jaap Eden, born on October 19, 1873 in Groningen, grew into one of the Netherlands' largest sports legends at the end of the 19th century. Although that’s more than 100 years ago, his exceptional performance is still widely recognized, for he was world champion skating and cycling! The Royal Dutch Mint is therefore launching an official commemorative coin on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Finance: the Jaap Eden 5 Euro Coin. The ceremonial reveal of the design of the coin took place today at the Jaap Eden Ice Rink in Amsterdam. The unveiling was carried out by grandson Jaap Eden Junior, coin designer Wineke Gartz and Olympic skating champion (1988) Yvonne van Gennip.
