Traditionally in the Netherlands Remembrance Day is held on 4 May and Liberation Day is celebrated on 5 May. On 4 and 5 May the Dutch feel strongly connected. The need to come together is felt even more strongly in these difficult times regarding the coronavirus. Despite the exceptional circumstances we wish to commemorate the end of the Second World War, 75 years ago, in interconnectedness. The Royal Dutch Mint therefore presents the first commemorative coin of 2020: the “75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin”, commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of Finance.
Due to current circumstances there will be no official reveal on location. On this page you can behold the 75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin for the first time. This special commemorative coin was designed by Dutch artist Marijke van Warmerdam, who also designed the Aviation commemorative coin. She was inspired by the festivities on May 5th and therefore incorporated a jaunty ribbon on the obverse and reverse of her design.Read more about the design of this special commemorative coin here.

Silver 75 years of freedom Jewel
The Royal Dutch Mint proudly adds a special Silver jewel to the 75 years of freedom issues. The jewel was designed by Royal Dutch Mint silversmith Marileen van Koelen and is a beautiful gift for yourself or for somebody else! The 75 years of freedom jewel consists of a classic Sterling Silver pendant with a 33 mm diameter on a 45 cm necklace. The elegant jewel is made out of an openwork orb that symbolises the earth. On the orb 75 flames can be found, equal to the years the Netherlands has lived in freedom. You can order the jewel here.
Special set: Europe Remembers
The 75 years of freedom 5 Euro Coin and the commemorative coins of Canada and England, two countries that were also involved in the end of the Second World War, are brought together in a special Silver set. In collaboration with Royal Leerdam Crystal a beautiful coin holder to commemorate 75 years of freedom and to display the coins has been designed. The coin holder is made out of oak in which the coins can be nicely presented, combined with a glass commemorative panel attached to the wooden base. You can find the set here.
