The Lion from Holland
After Utrecht, Zeeland and Gelderland, Holland is the next province in the Lion Dollar series. From 1814 until 1840, Holland was a Dutch province. Because the north and south were technically already ruled separately, the province was officially split in two in the constitutional revision of 1840. Today the two parts are still known as Noord- and Zuid Holland.
The original Lion Dollar from Holland was struck in 1612 in Dordrecht. 2020 marks the 800-year anniversary of Dordrecht being the first to gain city rights in the former province of Holland. This makes Dordrecht the oldest city in (the current) Holland. A special occasion that surely deserves an official restrike of their Lion Dollar.
