On behalf of the Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, the Royal Dutch Mint has minted a commemorative coin in honour of the 50th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Máxima. The silver 5 guilder coin can be ordered now.
Queen Máxima’s 50th BirthdayMáxima Zorreguieta was born on 17 May 1971 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She grew up in Argentina and studied economics at the Universidad Católica Argentina. After she graduated, she went to New York, where she worked at various banks. In 1999 she met Prince Willem-Alexander in the Spanish city of Sevilla and they married in 2002. They have three daughters together: Princess Amalia, Princess Alexia and Princess Ariane. When Prince Willem-Alexander acceded as King of the Netherlands in 2013, Máxima received the title Queen. In this role she represents the Royal Family on official occasions and fulfils many other social functions. Today the Queen turned 50 years old.
Design and Mintage
The obverse of the 5 guilder coin shows the portrait of Her Majesty Queen Máxima and the text “Koningin Máxima 50 jaar” (Queen Máxima 50 years). On the left, you see a laurel wreath, a symbol of celebration fitting the festive occasion. Furthermore, a row of diamonds is depicted to the right, emphasizing resilience and purity. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Netherlands Antilles with the country designation, the denomination “5 G” (guilders) and the year 2021. Moreover, the staff of Mercury and the privy mark can also be seen here. The coin will be delivered in a luxury case with Certificate of Authenticity (in Dutch).
