Hasselt, Belgian capital of gin, is first mentioned in 1165. For centuries, the city belonged to the county of Loon, which was later incorporated by the prince-bishopric of Liège and would eventually develop into today's province of Limburg. Thanks to its favourable location at the time on the road from Bruges to Cologne and its later proximity to a road and rail hub near the Albert Canal, Hasselt was able to maintain its prosperity quite well. A visit to its rich architectural heritage, including the Gothic St Quintinus Cathedral and its numerous art treasures will soon convince you. But above all, Hasselt is an attractive place to be! With a trendy Fashion Museum that enjoys international fame, with a gastronomy that peaks...  And with a Japanese garden that will charm even the most critical inhabitant of the land of the rising sun.
