Silver CoinsSince the beginning of our era, silver has been used for decorations and means of payment. Silver was used in the past as coins, because the metal has a number of favorable properties. Silver, for example, is highly resistant to corrosion and has antibacterial properties, making it particularly suitable for coins.
Nowadays silver is no longer used for payment and these silver coins mainly serve as a collector or investment item. The Royal Dutch Mint offers valuable silver coins in different categories. Silver coins can be found among other things between the European coins and World coins. The official Dutch commemorative coins are also still issued in silver.
Another coin by the Royal Dutch Mint in silver is the Lion Dollars. From 1575 the Lion Dollar was produced in the province of Holland, in particular to facilitate export. Shortly after the introduction, Leeuwendaalders were also issued by six of the seven Dutch provinces and some of the major cities.
The issues that you find at the Royal Dutch Mint are in different levels and qualities. The majority is made of fine or sterling silver, in proof or piedfort quality.
