As a memento of this edition of the Invictus Games, the Royal Dutch Mint is releasing a very limited special set with Gold-, Silver- and Bronze-plated issues which refer to the podium. The set will be delivered in a luxury case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
Design
The set was designed by Pannos Goutzemisis of the Royal Dutch Mint. When designing the issues, Goutzemisis was inspired by the participants: ordinary people who deliver extraordinary performances in exceptional circumstances, make big sacrifices and yet, with every heartbeat, can find the strength to carry on. The heartbeat can also be seen along the edge on the front and back of each item.
The reverse of each item bears the text “The Hague 2020”, the mint mark and privy mark of the Royal Dutch Mint and the slogan “I AM”. This slogan comes from the last lines of William Ernest Henley's poem “Invictus” used by the Invictus Games from the beginning. The inscription on the back is the motto of the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 “Grow through what you go through” and the text “Invictus Games The Hague 2020”.
Enamelled Tulip
All three issues in the special set are hand decorated by the silversmiths of the Royal Dutch Mint with a yellow tulip in enamelled glass. The Invictus Games The Hague 2020 tulip is not only a symbol for the Netherlands, but also for the growth of the participants and their family and friends.
