Description

Did you know that Sven Kramer is the most successful Dutch man on the Olympics? He has won a total of 9 Olympic Medals, four of which were gold. He won the Olympic Gold Medal 3 times for this favorite distance: the 5.000 meter. Also on European- and Worldchampionships, Sven did very well. He became World Champion Allround 9 times and European Champion 10 times. In 2022, Sven Kramer said goodbye to skating. During his final goodbye at Thialf, he was named member of honor of the Royal Dutch Skating Association. At this occasion, he also was named Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Sven Kramer Academy
‘My dream is that every child will at least one time experience the joy of skating”. These are the words of Sven Kramer that made him decide to start the Sven Kramer Academy. With this academy, it is possible for children to learn how to skate. This is done on the basis of a multidisciplinary (skating) curriculum. There is also a different theme every week, but fun is always most important. With this academy, Sven Kramer wants to contribute to the future of skating in the Netherlands.

Design
As a tribute to his impressive career, the Royal Dutch Mint designed a special Silver issue with special packaging, in collaboration with the Sven Kramer academy and Team Jumbo-Visma. The packaging of the Silver 1 ounce refers to the impressive skating career of Sven Kramer. This packaging is a reference to the many ours Kramer undoubtedly spend on the skating rink. The stripes are to be recognized by everyone that ever skated: the sharp iron blades leave stripes on the rink. In the middle of the ‘skating rink’, the Silver medal is placed. This issue is strictly limited.

The obverse of the medal consists of several elements. On the top right of the medal is the portrait of Sven Kramer. On the left side, you can find a skating figure, referring to the successes of Sven Kramer that he achieved in his career. On the bottom left is the name ‘Sven Kramer’. On the bottom you can see five skating figures, a reference to the achievements Sven Kramer accomplished with his team. Around the obverse of the medal, little skates are pictured. On the reverse you can find the logo of the Sven Kramer Academy, but also the privy mark and mintmark.
