On Thursday 29 October, the fourth Silver Ducat of the series “Dutch Castles” was revealed by mint master Stephan Satijn. The Muiderslot represents the Dutch province North Holland and can be admired on the obverse of the issue. The director of the Muiderslot, Annemarie den Dekker, was present at the reveal.
The Silver Ducat “Muiderslot Castle” is the last Silver Ducat of the year 2020. The series “Dutch Castles” will continue in the years to follow with other, famous Dutch castles. Godard de Ginkell (1644 –1703) puts on the knight’s armour throughout the whole series. Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot follows De Haar Castle (Utrecht), Heeswijk Castle (North Brabant) and Hoensbroek Castle (Limburg).

Amsterdam Castle Muiderslot is one of the most famous castles in the Netherlands. It is known for hosting many public activities. It is however also known as the residence of Sinterklaas when he visits the Netherlands in November. After it was built in 1285, the castle has been used, inhabited, taken, demolished, rebuilt and spruced. In 1878, the castle became one of the first national museums (“rijksmuseums”) in the Netherlands. It was renovated by Pierre Cuypers. It just happens to be that the famous architect was also responsible for the renovation of De Haar Castle in Utrecht!
