In a few weeks, on 18, 20 and 22 May, we can finally sit back on our couches and enjoy the Eurovision Song Contest again! In honour of the 65th edition of the international spectacle, the Royal Dutch Mint has launched a jewel. Today, none other than Duncan Laurence received the first necklace.
Last year, the Royal Dutch Mint already released a special issue with an innovative design in honour of the anniversary. The special design will be launched this year in the form of a beautiful pendant on a necklace.
Handover to Duncan Laurence
The first necklace was handed over today to Dutch singer Duncan Laurence, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019 with his song “Arcade”. Traditionally, the contest is organised the next year in the country of the former winner: the Netherlands! Unfortunately, the event had to be postponed due to the corona crisis. It was to take place at Rotterdam Ahoy. This year, the 65th edition will finally happen. The organization has worked out several scenarios to prevent another delay.
The Jewel
Music producer Eric van Tijn has mixed all winning songs of the Eurovision Song Contest together in one mix. The mix was played on a unique installation with a vessel of water on top. The relief that was created through the vibrations of the music was photographed with a special camera and converted to a unique issue. Watch the video below for more information on the design!
The innovative design is available as a pendant on a necklace this year. The obverse of the pendant show the water relief. The water relief can also be seen on the observe, as well as the logo of the Eurovision Song Contest. The jewel is available in two versions: in silver and gold plated silver.
