American Eagles have been minted by the US Mint since 1986. They are among the best-known gold bullion coins and are recognized and accepted worldwide.
To give the metal more hardness, the gold in the American Eagle is supplemented with a small amount of silver and copper. The gold content of the coins is 916.6/1000. This makes them slightly heavier than bullion coins that are minted from pure gold.
The design of the American Eagle was changed in 2021. The original design shows an eagle floating above a nest. The new version only shows the portrait of the eagle.
