• Special 2 euro coin on the occasion of the 450th birthday of the astronomer Galileo Galilei (1564-1642).

• Galileo ran into major problems with the ecclesiastical authorities because of his statement that the earth is not the center of the universe, but a planet revolving around the sun.

• The coin shows the portrait of Galileo after a painting from 1636.
