Jacobus Johannes Eden (Groningen, October 19, 1873) grew into one of the Netherlands' largest sports legends at the end of the 19th century. Although that is more than 100 years ago, his exceptional performance is still widely recognized. He was both world champion skating and cycling! The Royal Dutch Mint is therefore launching an official commemorative coin on behalf of the Ministry of Finance: the Jaap Eden 5 Euro Coin. As it is exactly 125 years ago in 2019 that Jaap Eden became world champion in cycling, the Royal Dutch Mint also issues a special Cycling Medal.
