Official Restrike: Ducaton 2021 “Silver Rider” 2 Ounce – Royal Delft Edition

The Royal Dutch Mint proudly presents restrikes of the very special Ducaton: Silver Rider, on a yearly basis. The original silver coin is named after the knight on horseback on the reverse. The Silver Rider was a beloved trade coin minted between 1659 – 1798 by the Republic of the Seven United Netherlands. The Royal Dutch Mint’s restrike is based on the original Ducaton from the province of Utrecht and is available in silver and gold, in both 1 and 2 ounce.

In 2021, the Royal Dutch Mint Ducaton is found in the familiar Royal Delft earthenware. The Delft Blue coin holder depicts classic Dutch scenery: a flat landscape with water, a windmill and beautiful flowers. We salute the Dutch landscape with this design. Piedfort edition
The numismatic term “Piedfort” is used for coins struck in double thickness. The Silver Rider is not only available in 1 ounce, but also in 2 ounce silver! Traditionally, Piedfort coins were used as a way of showing wealth and power. In the sixteenth and seventeenth century, rulers across Europe started the tradition of giving “prestige pieces” to members of their court. Nowadays, Piedfort coins are highly wanted collector’s items.
