Feyenoord Rotterdam is the football club that’s known for its hard working mentality and never giving up. And this mentality has brought the football club from the south of Rotterdam a lot of success. A total of 16 National Championships, 13 KNVB Cups, being the first Dutch football club to win the Europa Cup I and the UEFA Cup: it’s only a fragment of the successes of the Rotterdammers.
In 2024, the Royal Dutch Mint focuses on two important milestones from the rich, Rotterdam club history: the very first Championship in 1924, that is now 100 years ago, and winning the UEFA Cup as the first Dutch club, which is now 50 years ago. 1924: First Championship
For the first Championship of Feyenoord Rotterdam, we go back to the Pentecost Weekend of 1924. The season 1924-1925 was played between five clubs. These clubs represented five regions, where they had emerged as winner from the regional competition. The five champions played a complete competition against each other to determine the winner of the National Championship. After winning against SC Enschede on Pentecost (0-2), Be Quick 1887 from the North Region turned out to be the final hurdle to be taken by Feyenoord. On June 9th, Feyenoord won 3-1 and became the champions: it meant the final breakthrough of the Rotterdammers.
1974: First Dutch UEFA Cup-winner
Feyenoord’s successes leave supporters beaming with pride. Yet the club and its fans also yearn for success beyond its borders. After winning the Europa Cup I in 1970 and the World Cup for clubs in that same year, fans don’t have to wait long for a new milestone. As the first Dutch club, Feyenoord wins the UEFA Cup, by beating top favorite Tottenham Hotspur over two matches. At White Hart Lane, Feyenoord holds the Londoners to 2-2, and in their own stadium de Kuip, the Rotterdammers win 2-0.

The obverse of the medal contains the well-known Feyenoord Rotterdam logo. The reverse contains the two important highlights which we celebrate in 2024: left the logo of the club in the time of winning their first Championship in 1924, and on the right you can see the UEFA Cup trophy. Below you can find the numbers 100 and 50 together and all the way on the bottom the mintmark and privy mark.
The Medal is put in a nice coincard that is completely in theme of the first Championship 100 years ago and winning the UEFA Cup 50 years ago. On the obverse of the coincard, you can find the 1924 team and the reverse shows an image of club icon Wim Janssen who holds the UEFA Cup.
