Belgium 2.5 Euro Coin 2024 “James Ensor Year” BU in Coincard FR

As a tribute to James Ensor (1860 - 1949), who died 75 years ago, 2024 has been declared the James Ensor Year! In celebration of the Belgian great master, avant-garde artist, colourist, realist, symbolist, an 'artist's artist', innovator, inspirer, researcher of light; a modern artist of international renown, a veritable festival was launched in his hometown of Ostend in December 2023. Several exhibitions in Mu.ZEE, among others, and activities dedicated to Ensor, his creations and inspiration, Ostend passes the baton to Brussels. Brussels also has plenty to offer in terms of exhibitions at the KBR and Bozar. Or join the National Expo and create your own Ensor-inspired work. In autumn, it's Antwerp's turn. With exhibitions at the KMSKA with the largest Ensor collection in the world, as well as four other Antwerp museums and a variety of activities.  
 
A versatile and idiosyncratic artist, James Ensor has a very wide oeuvre. From drawings and etchings, still lifes or landscapes, to life-size works with masquerades, skeletons and caricatures. And everything in between. Inspiration for many artists after him.

The James Ensor Year prompted the Royal Mint of Belgium to issue a 2½ euro coin featuring two of his most famous works. The 2½ euro is minted in BU quality and appears in a coincard with two language versions. In honour of this special occasion, a free NFT* has now been added to the coincard as a first for a Belgian coin! The obverse of the coin shows in the background the two central figures from the impressive 'The Intrigue'. Over them, on the left in relief, the famous 'Self-Portrait with Flower Hat' at the bottom is Ensor's signature and the reference to the James Ensor Year.
