Day of the Mint Set 2022

It’s Utrecht’s Birthday!
Utrecht is 900 years old in 2022 and this must be celebrated! Even though already existing as a settlement during Roman times, Utrecht was granted city rights in 1122 by emperor Hendrik V. Therefore Utrecht is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and the original documents of this moment are still being kept safe in Het Utrechts Archief. With the Day of the Mint Set 2022 we celebrate the 900^th anniversary of Utrecht.
 
Historic Domcity
Thanks to its unique location next to the Rhine, Utrecht grew into one of the most important and large trading cities in the northern Netherlands during the Middle Ages. In 1808, Utrecht even briefly functioned as the capital of the Kingdom Holland. Nowadays Utrecht is no longer the capital, but even today the city remains to be a very important connection point. The city is known for its characteristic center with cozy canals and wharf cellars. The literal highlight is the Dom Tower, which has been indispensable in the city view since the 14^th century.
 
Unique token
As a special tribute to Utrecht’s birthday, the Day of the Mint Set 2022 also includes a unique medal. All sets contain this medal, but there are also one hundred silver medals randomly spread out in the total mintage. This means one hundred lucky winners will receive a silver token instead of a cupronickel one. The sets with a silver medal can be recognized by the sticker on the packaging.
 
On the front of the medal, you will find a graphic representation of the main highlights of the city of Utrecht. For example the Dom Tower, but also the old Mint building and Utrecht Central Station. On the reverse is the logo of 900 years Utrecht and the mint mark and de privy mark can be found on this side. The set also contains all eight Dutch 2022 euro coins in BU quality. These are not in circulation and only available in our coin sets.
