Stephan Satijn has been recently appointed as the Mint Master of the Royal Dutch Mint. Today we disclose the new privy mark.
The symbolism behind the new privy mark
The privy mark Stephan Satijn chose is the St. Servatius Bridge from his birthplace Maastricht. The bridge symbolises the mint master’s role as bridge-builder on the one hand and on the other the connection between private and public. Just like the Royal Dutch Mint, the city of Maastricht has a rich history. The European Monetary Union (EMU) was established here in 1992, which laid the foundation for the actual introduction of the euro on 1 January 2002.
Special selection
The Royal Dutch Mint issues a special selection for the introduction of the new privy mark,. On Thursday 19 October these products will be offered online on knm.nl.
What is a privy mark
Each Mint Master has his own privy mark. The privy mark is a personal signature on coins and medals. As from today, the Royal Dutch Mint will strike all Dutch euro coins with the new privy mark. More information about mint marks and privy marks here.
