Today, the ceremonial First Strike of the Woudagemaal 5 Euro Coin would have taken place. Because of the recent development regarding the spread of the corona virus in the Netherlands, the Royal Dutch Mint has decided to cancel the event. The First Day Issue will remain available today.
Woudagemaal 100th anniversaryToday the Woudagemaal in Lemmer, Friesland celebrates its 100th anniversary. On 7 October 1920, the steam pumping station was officially opened by Queen Wilhelmina. Considering the recent measures taken to limit social gatherings and movements as much as possible, the Royal Dutch Mint has decided to cancel the ceremonial First Strike. However, you can still order your First Day Issue!
As tradition dictates, commemorative coins are distributed after the ceremonial First Strike has taken place. With the right precautions, the production of the coins was still able to continue. The first gold Woudagemaal coins were struck today.
First Day Issue
You can now order the First Day Issue of the Woudagmaal 5 Euro Coin! This issue is only available for one day and can be purchased until 7 October 2020, 11:59 p.m. (CEST). This numbered issue in coincard comes in a First Day Envelope with date stamp and signature from a Royal Dutch Mint employee. The Woudagemaal 5 Euro Coin is also the first coin to depict the Dutch King Willem-Alexander with his beard. We will announce the definitive mintage of the First Day Issue on 8 October 2020.
