On Thursday 27 August, the third Silver Ducat of the series “Dutch Castles” was revealed by mint master Stephan Satijn at Hoensbroek Castle in Limburg. The castle itself can be admired on the issue. Councilor Jordy Clemens and the director of Hoensbroek Castle, Hans Thuis, were present at the reveal.
In 2020, four Silver Ducats are struck by the Royal Dutch Mint in commission by the Ministry of Finance as part of the series “Dutch Castles”. Each Silver Ducat in the ongoing series depicts a castle from one of the twelve Dutch provinces. Godard de Ginkell (1644 –1703) puts on the knight’s armour throughout the whole series. Hoensbroek Castle follows De Haar Castle (Utrecht) and Heeswijk Castle (North-Brabant).
Hoensbroek Castle
Hoensbroek Castle is one of the most beautiful castles in Europe. The castle has over forty authentically decorated rooms: from a beautiful and elegant ballroom to a dark, lurid dungeon. For almost six hundred years the castle was wandered by knights, counts and marquesses. All residents together form a colorful lineage of noble ladies and gentlemen. The immense medieval tower is a landmark in the scenery and draws you towards the castle. As soon as you enter, its splendor is stunning. It is as if time stood still.
The Silver Ducat “Hoensbroek Castle” is available now and is supplied in luxury packaging, inspired by the armour of the knight.
