Loeki de Leeuw has received the first copy of his own issue honouring his 50th birthday! The lion travelled all the way to the Royal Dutch Mint in Houten for the presentation. He received the first silver issue from Mint Master Bert van Ravenswaaij. His creator Louise Geesink and Ster director Frank Volmer were also present at the handover.
Louise Geesink was closely involved in the design process and is very enthusiastic about the issue: “This issue is the cherry on top of Loeki's 50-year career. I am extremely proud of it and so is Loeki.” The issue is available in coincard, Silver and Gold. The gold issue is already sold out, the coincard and silver issue can still be ordered at royaldutchmint.com.Loeki de Leeuw
Loeki de Leeuw is a creation of Joop Geesink and was first seen on Dutch television in January 1972. He quickly grew into a Dutch icon. In 2004, after approximately 7,000 films, the “Ster” (the foundation that regulates advertising for Dutch public broadcasters) stopped making Loeki films. From then on, Loeki could only be admired in theme park Efteling, where he played a role in the Carnival Festival ride for many years. The lion remained in the spotlight every year through the Gouden Loeki, the Ster’s audience award for the best advertising. In 2021 Loeki made his return to television and can be seen regularly in his 4-second performances during the commercials of the Ster.
