The Scheepjesschelling represents one of the many Dutch schellingen. As the name might suggest for those who understand a little Dutch, the obverse of the coin depicts a ship. “Scheepje” is the Dutch word for ship. The Royal Dutch Mint based the restrike on the original Scheepjesschelling from the province of Utrecht in the year 1786. It is available in silver and gold. Furthermore, both issues are also struck in Piedfort (double!) thickness! All come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.Wavy coin holder
The restrike of the Scheepjesschelling in gold is very special. Not only does the coin have the exact same dimensions as the original Scheepjesschelling from 1786, it is also placed in a very exclusive coin holder. The crystal holder is one of the last products manufactured by Royal Leerdam Crystal in their factory in Leerdam. The special, wavy shape brings the ship to live inside the glass.
