Pride Amsterdam is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! To celebrate the anniversary, the Royal Dutch Mint proudly presents three exclusive issues. The Pride Amsterdam issues are now on sale on royaldutchmint.com
Pride AmsterdamPride Amsterdam was first organised in 1996 by Gay Business Amsterdam to promote our capital as a gay nightlife city and to celebrate diversity. Since then, it has grown into a nine-day festival, drawing attention to the emancipation and acceptance of the LGBTIQ+ community, culminating in the Canal Parade. Since 2019, Pride Amsterdam has been added to the Inventory Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands.
Rainbow Flag Design
The rainbow flag can be seen everywhere at Amsterdam Pride, as it symbolises the entire LGBTIQ+ community. The flag is therefore also depicted on the front of all three issues. A fist militantly holds the flag; although in recent years we have come a long way on LGBTIQ+ rights, the fight for acceptance is not over yet. In addition, the text "Pride Amsterdam 25 Years" is inscribed on the obverse. The reverse shows the logo of the Inventory Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Netherlands.
The colourful coincard, part of the 'Intangible heritage in the Netherlands' series, shows the diversity of Pride Amsterdam in photos. In addition to the medal in coincard, there are also limited edition silver and gold medals available. The silver issue, which has been coloured by hand, shows the colourful flag in all its glory. Both the silver issue and the gold issue come in a cheerful case with the “Progress” flag. This triangle highlights the specific challenges that non-white, non-binary, transgender, and other gender-nonconforming people in the LGBTIQ+ community face. Get yours now!
