Description

The coincard in honour of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) is part of the 75 years of freedom issues. The celebration of the 75th anniversary of the United Nations will close the national celebration of 75 years of freedom in the Netherlands. This celebration began in 2019 when King Willem-Alexander rung the historical bell buoy in Terneuzen. The Royal Dutch Mint will memorise the anniversary of the UN with a special coincard in which you will find the 5, 20 and 50 euro cent coins of 2020: the sum of the anniversary number 75! The shiny coins in BU-quality are presented in a red, white and blue coincard in a sleek design. On the front the United Nations logo is depicted. Doves of peace fly on the front and back of this coincard.

The United Nations
The United Nations are an international organisation, established by 51 countries on 24 October 1945, after the end of the Second World War. The countries in the UN aim to maintain international peace and security. Nowadays almost all the world’s sovereign states are members of the UN. On 24 October 2020, the Netherlands celebrate the 75th anniversary of the UN in The Hague. The Royal Dutch Mint also honours this moment.

Launch on 15 August
The theme year “75 years of freedom” recognises many moments of celebration and commemoration. The Netherlands commemorate the victims of war on 4 May and celebrate freedom on 5 May. The Second World War however did not officially end until 15 August 1945, with the capitulation of Japan. The former Dutch East Indies were not liberated until this day. Annually, the National Remembrance 15 August 1945 takes place at the Indies Monument in The Hague.

The definitive mintage of the issue “75 Years of United Nations in Coincard” is determined on 24 October 2020.
