Belgium 10 euro 2024 “75 years NATO” Silver Proof in luxury case

Because security in daily life is crucial for collective well-being, NATO aims to ensure the freedom and safety of its member states through political and military means. Cooperation seems more topical than ever as Sweden became the 32nd member state to join NATO. Reason enough to dwell on the 75th anniversary of this organisation. Consequently, the Royal Mint of Belgium is now issuing an exclusive silver 10-euro coin in honour of 75 years of NATO.
 
75 years of NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) is an international and intergovernmental organisation founded after World War II. Its foundation can be found in the joint defence of several Western countries against external threats, especially from the communist power bloc in the East. Its basis is the North Atlantic Treaty signed in Washington D.C. on 4 April 1949.
 
NATO headquarters in Brussels
NATO Headquarters or NATO HQ, after previous locations in London and Paris, has been permanently settled in Brussels since 1967. All political and administrative functions, such as the North Atlantic Council (NAC), the NATO Secretary-General's office and the offices of the national delegations of the 31 member states, offices of the liaison officers and diplomatic missions of 19 partner countries, the central administration, the international secretariat and the international military general staff are housed here - on the A201 near Brussels Airport.
 
NATO's military headquarters has also resided in Belgium since leaving France. This is still called Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), despite also providing a home to Allied Command Operations, responsible for global NATO military operations. Very deliberately, this military headquarters is not located too close to Brussels, but 80 km further south in Casteau, near Mons. This not only for the sake of security, but also to boost the region there.
